HOW TO PUBLISH A NEWS FEED

First, open an Enfeedia account

Before you can publish Enfeedia-hosted news feeds, you must open an account. It's FREE. On the home page, click the link "Get a Free Account". Provide your account name, password, your name and email address, select "listed or unlisted", and off you go.

"Unlisted" for Enfeedia means the same as for the telephone book. If you choose to be unlisted, we won't show your account name in any listing. However, if someone knows your account name, they will be able to read your news feed, just as one can call you even though your phone number is unlisted.

Choose your account name thoughtfully because it will show in your news feed URL, i.e., address — which is just like website addresses. Likewise, when you name your news feed, you should also choose the feed name with the same thoughtfulness.

Example: The address for a news feed named "recipes" in account named "exotic_seafood" is www.enfeedia.com/see/exotic_seafood/recipes.xml.

It's not just OK for others to know your account name, it's good! WIth just your account name, one can go to Enfeedia.com, see a list of your news feeds (as long as they are not "unlisted"), and select one of your feeds for reading. No need to memorize a crytpic news feed address. Don't worry, without knowing your account password, one cannot make changes to your account or publish into your news feeds or access any private information.

Now create a news feed

Creating a news feed is as simple as opening an account. First log into your account by clicking the "LOG IN" link . Then click the "Set Up Feeds" link.

Now, choose "Add a Feed" and enter a feed name. The comments to the left describe what constitutes an acceptable name. Submit that name to continue to the screen where you specify your feed. Fill out the form (see helpful comments on the left), click submit, and you're done creating a feed.

"Feed Link" is the address of your website or, in general, the online document you want to associate with your news feed.

"Feed Access Code" is like a password, but specifically for the purpose of emailing in news items to this feed and is not to be confused with your account password. The capability to send news items to your feed by email is a future feature.

What's a news feed without news items

Until you publish your first news item, your account is not active. And even if you have published feeds already, a new feed is not activated until you add a news item to it.

To post a news item to your feed, select "Publish Items". (If you have more than one feed, you also select the feed to which you intend to add the item.)

Fill out the form as directed. Notice the helpful comments on the left.

"Item Link" is the address of a website or, in general, the online document you want to associate with this news item. Typically, it's the link to an online document that provides more information regarding this news item.

Click submit, and you've completed publishing your feed with your first news item.
